Water from a Rock - the miracle that saves us!

A storm is coming are you built upon the Rock?

I was watching a well know christian teacher on the tv the other day and he brought up a greatly inspired point about the story of Moses and the rock.  I am retelling in my words but I  really do not get the point across as well as his did so you will need to read and click on the foot notes to see his video too.

As many people know, that when Moses left Egypt with the children of God that after all those miracles God did to pharaoh he let them leave.  However They then came to the mighty river and it was too deep to cross.  AND the wicked King had changed his mind and was after them with all his army.  Kinda like stuck between a ROCK and  Hard place we use to hear about so often.

At this point God again saved them and throughout the night a long hard wind blew and in the morning the children of Israel crossed through the river on DRY land.  This was spiritually showing the spiritual Baptism we all need to agree to before we can be a child of God!  That will of ours has to say, YES I am willing to change and step forth into Your way of living!

So after this great miracle and the people are safe on the other side and all of the pharaoh's army is devastated the people walk on toward the promise land.  (aka the promises of God's salvation and care)  Not long after the people start griping and complaining.  First one thing then another.  NEVER happy or thankful.  In exodus 17 we read that:

Water From the Rock

17 The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.”
Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”
But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?”
Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
The Lord answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. And he called the place Massah[a] and Meribah[b] because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested theLord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

Notice what the desert there is called.  The desert of SIN.  Interesting.  Now what is important to realize is that the ROCK is a type of Christ spiritually speaking and the WATER is the word of God.  Here we have the people rebelling and Moses going right to God to get directions how to handle it.  God says to Go back in front of the people and to strike the rock and the water will come out.  Nothing more and nothing less.  and Moses DID.

Spiritually it is saying that by striking the rock ( the then coming sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the killing of him who is the rock) that the true water will be yours to understand and know truth.  The water will refresh you, the WORD of GOD will refresh and RENEW you!  You will live and not die of thirst  You will live and not die from sin IF you drink of the word of God!

Ahhh.. but this same trial happens again!  Read in Numbers 20:

In the first month the whole Israelite community arrived at the Desert of Zin, and they stayed at Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.
Now there was no water for the community, and the people gathered in opposition to Moses and Aaron. They quarreled with Moses and said, “If only we had died when our brothers fell dead before the Lord! Why did you bring the Lord’s community into this wilderness, that we and our livestock should die here? Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to this terrible place? It has no grain or figs, grapevines or pomegranates. And there is no water to drink!
Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance to the tent of meeting and fell facedown, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them. The Lord said to Moses, “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.”
So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence, just as he commanded him. 10 He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” 11 Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.
12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”

Do you see it?  Do you understand?  This time God said to just speak to the rock.  Note also God NEVER told moses to speak to the people and try to make them understand. NO.  Moses was to speak to the ROCK.  This is HUGE spiritual implications.  Moses was not to strike the rock.  WHY?  Because Christ was only to die for our sins ONCE.  Only Once was it required for our sins. And why speak to the Rock?  Because we are not be solving our problems by trying make our point about God , GOD makes the point about who He is by himself.  We are to be going to God (the rock) and make all our petitions there.  Then we are to go and do and say only what He tells us to!  This glorifies GOD not us.

BTW, notice again what Desert name comes up.  ZIN  sure sounds like SIN again.  Was it the same desert or a new one.  No matter it is a place where the people are still in sin for they have yet to accept and live in Christ.  The Holy Spirit will not come to be living in them (the children of God) until after Christ dies.

Moses did a great wrong by his actions this time.  He did not follow exactly what God said.  He did not understand the implications.  He was NOT to strike the rock for his anger got between him and his relationship with God.  GOD was to get the Glory when he spoke to the rock.  By him striking it , he was putting himself in the Glory seat and misrepresenting God's prophecy of Christ coming to die once and for all to cover all sin of humanity!  Thus in the physical sense Moses had to show that unless we accept that offer we  will NOT be allowed into the promised land.  (spiritually the Promises of God and to Live past this earthy state.)

"If you speak to the Rock you feed the people"  Vent it to Jesus not to the kids, the husband, or wife"  From TDJakes teaching.
