As I was driving home today from doing some errands and my two mile walk around town, my mind was considering the ways to prepare for the future.

Some people are stockpiling food, making sure they are getting out of all credit card debt.  Even selling their larger homes and buying something small they can pay for in cash and not owe anything but yearly taxes.

I just recently turned 60 this year, and even in my short life span so far, see that our economy's highs are not so high and our lows are getting lower with the passing of time.  A professor of finance and history once gave a lecture to a group of us with charts showing USA History of our ups and downs.

The graph was incredible to see.  The great depression, surging high other times , the low when gas was in shortage in the 70's I think.  I remember many gas stations were closed most the week, and only open certain hours, long lines etc.  I found a couple charts that are interesting:
*Federal Surplus or deficit
*civilian employment -population Ratio
*US money supply

But over all, we are declining.  Our country is loosing ground due to many reasons.  But the question remains, "what are you doing to prepare for worse days"?

Do we head for the hills, and dig in a cabin hidden from the world. Stock piled like the underground scene in "Blast from the Past"?  BTW, if you have not watched that, it is one of my favorite shows.  So funny!

Do you really think all our efforts to prepare for the unknown future will help?  In my pondering's, I decided no.  I do think we should be wise, and my family is doing everything possible to reduce and eliminate our debt to any one!  But, where we need to put forth the most effort is the one most do not even consider.  Spend your time in study and prayer to know your Lord God, for then you will have peace and God will care for you as He see fit.  In Matthew:

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

And where you heart is, there it will be safe.  All your needs will be provided. Not all wants but needs.  And remember this verse in that same chapter also:

Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much moreclothe you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

No, we cannot change the future economy of the USA ourselves.  Greed and the moral decline of our country is its downfall.  Unless all the people pray and CHANGE it will do no good.  But YOU can change yourselves, and God WILL fulfill HIS promises to those who are faithful to trust and believe In Him!

Then your life will be filled with joy and peace for each day the Lord your God gives you to live.  No one knows the hour of their death, we do not have to live in fear of tomorrow.  Jesus came to show us the way, will you follow?  Will you surrender to His loving ways or will you try to save yourself?
