Some people are stockpiling food, making sure they are getting out of all credit card debt. Even selling their larger homes and buying something small they can pay for in cash and not owe anything but yearly taxes.
I just recently turned 60 this year, and even in my short life span so far, see that our economy's highs are not so high and our lows are getting lower with the passing of time. A professor of finance and history once gave a lecture to a group of us with charts showing USA History of our ups and downs.
The graph was incredible to see. The great depression, surging high other times , the low when gas was in shortage in the 70's I think. I remember many gas stations were closed most the week, and only open certain hours, long lines etc. I found a couple charts that are interesting:
*Federal Surplus or deficit
*civilian employment -population Ratio
*US money supply
But over all, we are declining. Our country is loosing ground due to many reasons. But the question remains, "what are you doing to prepare for worse days"?
Do we head for the hills, and dig in a cabin hidden from the world. Stock piled like the underground scene in "Blast from the Past"? BTW, if you have not watched that, it is one of my favorite shows. So funny!
Do you really think all our efforts to prepare for the unknown future will help? In my pondering's, I decided no. I do think we should be wise, and my family is doing everything possible to reduce and eliminate our debt to any one! But, where we need to put forth the most effort is the one most do not even consider. Spend your time in study and prayer to know your Lord God, for then you will have peace and God will care for you as He see fit. In Matthew:
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
